Had a discussion with a friend of his. Likely the best friend - TopicsExpress

Had a discussion with a friend of his. Likely the best friend I’ll ever have but who’s counting right? I’ve learned that a “best friend” and one’s “closest friend” just aren’t necessarily the same thing. They SHOULD be but hey. “Wish in one hand and shit in the other” right? I digress. I was going to tell you about a conversation I had earlier! I’ll probably only paraphrase though. That’s seemingly all I’ll need to do in order to get my point across. We were discussing the terror-group “isis.” That group is responsible for many unspeakable acts of extreme violence. They’d like to see the formation of an “Islamic state” and the complete destruction and/or dissolution of the “primarily Christian west.” As part of their conquest they’ve “taken” several cities in Iraq. This ESPEIALLY upsets many American veterans of the American-Iraq war. Some of those veterans remember watching friends give their lives in pursuit of American conquest of those cities. Some of those veterans remember losing limbs in pursuit of American conquest of those cities. They’re understandably loath to see those cities in the control of a régime whose goal is the complete and utter destruction of the American nation. I’m not into violence like that, terror like that OR the destruction of America. I don’t like them either. Many of those who’re fighting ISIS used to belong to the militaries of the same nations ISIS would like to destroy. Used to. That was the point of the article. Now since many of those nations refuse to fight ISIS directly (see: asses and elephants) many of the combatants AGAINST ISIS are serving the militia of a country that’s not where they were born. I learned this when I read an article about it PRIOR to the conversation in question. That conversation was ABOUT what the article said. That piece of journalism told me that many countries (America included) have declared it “against the law” to fight for the militia of another country. That’s what our conversation centered around. The person with whom I spoke was “torn” as to whether or not that should be the law. That individual has the same feelings I do concerning terrorism and patriotism. Actually that person shares my feeling toward a LOT of issues. Anyway they questioned whether or not American citizens should be vilified for taking the fight to America’s enemies. I didn’t think so. NO NATION SHOULD EVER defame behavior exhibited in its defense! Then I was made to understand the flip-side of the coin. That individual shone the light of possibility on the issue. They made me consider the ramifications of its legality. If it WERE legal that would demonstrate an ACCEPTANCE of that kinda behavior. It’s likely illegal to detract from that very possibility. THAT’S where the person was “torn.” They wouldn’t like to see anti-American behavior. Neither would I. I don’t like its illegality though. “Yeah, so what if that demonstrates American acceptance of ANTI-American sentiment? Anti-American feeling is going to exist elsewhere in the world no matter WHAT we do. It’s not like we can police the globe! (can we? Asses and elephants may try to answer.) We should probably do WHATEVER we can WHENEVER to support those who support America! After all-Americans LOST LIMBS for those cities. FOREVER. They can’t get ‘em back. Think they wanna give those CITIES back?!”
