Had a fun surprise this evening when I went downtown in Port Townsend to get my cup of tea and write in my notebook at Elevated Ice Cream. Writing in a notebook is a less intimidating way of getting scenes going--its easy to type out my illegible notes and revise them but harder to start typing cold. Anywaym while I was there, friends came in so I had someone to avoid writing with (the woman is a writer too). As I came in, I noticed the Kinetic sculptures lined up along the block for the Kinetic Sculpture Race which starts tomorrow. The hospitality party was tonight. This years theme is gods and goddesses so a lot of people were in fun costumes and the sculptures had temple-like themes too although one represented Cthulu, the elder god. The surprise was that as I left, they lit up the sculptures and drove them in loops all down water street, treating us spectators to a preliminary parade. This is good for me because I usually cant get close enough parking to enjoy the main parade. Tomorrow night is the Kinetic Kween Kostume Kontest and ball and Im tempted to go as my favorite goddess--Terry Pratchetts Annoia, the goddess of things that get stuck in drawers. I thought I could wear a pair of drawers (knickers or long john bottoms maybe) and stick pancake turners, whisks, salad forks and all of those annoying things along the waistband of the drawers...I probably wont. Wearing pancake turners and can openers around all day sounds uncomfortable. But its a thought.
