Had a great question from Scotty Simpson regarding original work yesterday. We discussed how to work to a first-layer finish in one area during a painting day and then how to resume the next day--proceeding from the previous days stopping point, etc... I feather out the edge of wherever I stop for the day and then interlock the next days start right from where I finished (again just like the tapers in pressure scales---but this time wet over dry.) You can get pretty good at these day-tapers to the point where they are hardly noticeable in the first layer (and then obviously completely eradicated in subsequent layers). Here is an image of a first layer of mine and then the final layer. You can see how some of the first layer is quilted together with many different day-tapers and then see how those same seams are covered up with subsequent refinements.
