Had a little setback today. Azis surgery somehow aggravated some - TopicsExpress

Had a little setback today. Azis surgery somehow aggravated some arthritis he has in his back. Since I was with him the entire time, I know he was lifted and manipulated very gently and carefully during the surgery, but hes an old guy and somehow it just happened. He was restless all night, but couldnt walk well or stand well when he was agitated and wanted to move. I slept w him on the dog bed and had to help him to and from. By morning, it wasnt better and he was in real distress. Dr. H worked him in immediately this morning and did a cold laser treatment on him and changed/added some meds and prescribed complete rest. When he was restless, the only thing that calmed him was a car ride, so I gassed up and off we went for several long cruises. This relaxed him and he finally calmed and has been home sleeping for the past several hours. He is drinking, finally ate a bit at the vets office, he pees and poops. Vitals and bloodwork good, so it should resolve. Until then, I have to keep him with me because I dont trust him not to go outside and get stuck. Its over a hundred degrees (F) here, so if he suddenly cant move, he could burn his feet or overheat quickly.I JUST went outside with him and he is better! Still some distress, but not nearly as much as last night and this morning. WHEW! Well get through this! Hes a tough old dog and a smart one. :) Thank you again to everyone for your concern and thoughts, and to Dr. Holcomb for working him in and for her kindness and the extra time she gave us!!!!!
