Had a lot of fun at Fechtschule New York. Thanks to Mike Edelson, MEMAG, and the New York Historical Fencing Association for hosting such an awesome event. The classes were a lot of fun, I really enjoyed Bill Frisbees class on harnischfechten and Betsy Winslows jaegerstock class was wild fun. The tournament was a lot of fun, the experimental method of judging was relatively more free from errors than other competitions Ive participated in. In that vein, the lessons at CKDF with Jake Norwood (Watch vids of him and Dustin Reagan cut) have VERY noticeably affected how I approach my tactics and techniques in a spar, and I hope to keep improving in that direction. Some of my favorite moments were against Tristan P. J. Żukowski and Tyler Sullivan, where for a few actions we completely mirrored each others attacks at the exact same time with the same intent, against Eric Boulton-Bailey when, after a four-action exchange, he was stepping back into vom tauge and I was about to drop into pflueg and rest, when when my entire consciousness flamed up with: No, PRESS! GOGOGOGOGOGO!, and against Bill when our abstensens and hanger-parries and windings shot sparks from the regenyei feders. Everything Dustin does in a spar occurs in *very* short windows of time, it was easily the most challenging fight Ive done yet. Dustin is also the first person Ive seen cut the sturtzhau in a cutting competition. It was really cool to see. It was a seriously fun event, I enjoyed the day and camping out with everyone. Good people, good place, classes, and fights. This is still very easily my favorite HEMA event.
