Had a phone call earlier telling us about an incident this morning whereas someone around 0400hrs. was awakened by their dogs barking and someone trying to forcibly get into their residence. The individual was overheard speaking in a foreign language to someone. The resident barricaded themselves in their BR and phoned 911. The operator stayed on the phone until law enforcement arrived MINUTES LATER, TOOK A STATEMENT, AND SEARCHED THE AREAS FOR THE PERSON(S), SPOKE TO OTHER RESIDENTS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, ONE OF WHICH CONFIRMED SOMEONE RECENTLY DID THE SAME TO THEIR RESIDENCE AND SPOKE TO SOMEONE IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE, AND NO ONE WAS LOCATED IN THE INCIDENT. This could have been very tragic for the resident and family and just reinforces my position that you arent safe in your own home unless youve been thoroughly trained to handle such situations. It also substantiates my opinion that if one is legally in this country and is going to be here for a lengthy time, they should be able to communicate in what the adopted language is and that is English. I dont have to tell anyone what the consequences would have been had it occurred at my residence.
