Had a question about #titanium #dioxide found in a Dayia vegan - TopicsExpress

Had a question about #titanium #dioxide found in a Dayia vegan cheese because of concern that titanium dioxide is classified as a possible human #carcinogen. Indeed it is classified as such because of experiments showing that rodents inhaling titanium dust have an increased risk of cancer. Any substance that causes any cancer in any animal at some dose is classified as a carcinogen. There is no evidence that humans exposed to titanium dioxide in an occupational environment have an increased risk, but based on the animal model, efforts should be taken to reduce risk of inhalation. Titanium dioxide is the prime pigment in white paint and has other industrial uses so workers can be exposed to its dust. The inhalation risk, however, is unrelated to the ingestion of small amounts of titanium dioxide used as an approved food colouring. There is no evidence at all that ingestion of this chemical causes any problem. So, the vegan cheese may be unpalatable, but not because of the presence of titanium dioxide.
