Had a very rare experience in low stress travel this evening. Started out a little iffy, but ended up at the airport with a near perfect checkin experience. Started out with the taxi driver heading to the wrong airport, which I caught quickly enough to avoid losing too much time. Arrived at the airport and saw on the flight checkin board that I had misread the schedule. I had read the boarding time on my eticket as being the departure time, so I was actually an hour early. Then, found out that Emirates Air frequent flyer benefits are really nice. On the flight to Bangkok I crossed the threshold for the silver level. Not very high in frequent flyer terms, but high enough to checkin at the Business Class counter where there was no line. Checked in quickly, then to security and passport control, both of which had the shortest lines Id ever seen in Bangkok. It took less than 15 minutes to go from the taxi to the airport lounge, where I get to relax thanks to Priority Pass even though I am not flying business class. Usually, Im the wheezing old guy trying to do an OJ Simpson (those old enough to remember his car rental agency commercials will understand), as I try to get to the counter just before it closes. After how relaxed this evenings experience was, I might try this early airport arrival thing again in the future.
