Had an exciting dig on Sunday with Travis Taylor Moore and our friend Andy. I need some help IDing one of my finds. The Sterling Expert Rifleman medal. Heres what I know: weighs exactly 1/2 oz, the one I have has crossed M1903 Springfields, I know there are at least two variations on the wreath(mine being the wider one), different variations on the endcap motifs on either side of the top bar where the words are, different rifle-type variations, and different variations on the wording. I assume this is a medal that would be awarded for marksmanship in Basic Training/Boot Camp. I did some reading online and most of the sources conflict. So here is what I do not know: What branch is this, ARMY or Marine Corps? And Does anyone know how old it is? All I have is a vague shot in the dark and right now Im going with pre WW2 Marine Corps. However, last year the same yard produced an Army General Service hat badge. Might be totally unrelated but I suppose it is worth mentioning. Any info would be appreciated! Also threw in photos of my other finds from Sunday. Just for giggles. Thanks! -Aaron(TulsaPllTbFndr)
