Had an interesting conversation on the weekend about bad reviews. Generally speaking, I dont go onto Goodreads and I dont read anything below a four star review unless its written by someone I know and respect. Another writer said they especially dont read a bad review if its by someone they know because they dont want it affecting any friendships. I thought this was a pretty valid point. The lines get blurred between readers, bloggers, and writers, because at heart were all here due to our love of books. We become friends. I dont expect anyone to alter their opinion to suit my delicate little artistic feelings. To my way of thinking, that would be wildly unfair of me. But authors do need to protect their emotional wellbeing. Writing a book takes a certain amount of ego and sass, or whatever the hell you want to call it. So sometimes, for me, it makes sense to steer clear of more stinging reviews. I was just wondering what everyone else thought?
