Had an interview this evening with a Houston TV station at The Rose. Topic was importance of early detection as well as a little bit of my story. It was a fun experience. I think they are preparing for Oct being breast cancer awareness month. Also met with my oncologist today. He is very pleased with how well my body is tolerating the new medicine. My liver AST enzymes went down rather than up! That is the first time in 5 or 6 months so that was good news. Did not have any scans but only blood work. He said we will wait another 3 to 6 weeks to do the scan. He said I would be on this medicine for the rest of my life (as long as its working & if it stops working I will be put on another kind) in order to keep the cancer from spreading. He explained that once cancer has metastasized (spread from its original location) it is no longer curable but is treatable as long as my body accepts the different medication. I asked him for a life expectancy.....he said he couldnt tell me because it is possible there may be a cure someday so I should live my life as though I will live forever & not to try & figure it all out. Just take care of myself while making each day count. I left that appointment to have my infusion which is another cancer preventative and cried for a little while. It was alot of info to process in my head feeling scared again but after getting the good cry out of my system I felt better. Feels good to be home.
