Had an opportunity today to speak with Sergeant Henry McLauchlan with the King County Sheriffs and the Burien Police Dapartment regarding a neighbor that has been a constant threat to this community. The Problem still remains that we that are not causing an issue are held hostage in our homes and have to be on constant guard because this person is unstable and therefore the police can do nothing. According to the Law the police cannot do anything and their hands are tied because the Mental Health system simply cannot facilitate all the mentally ill and there is not enough money in the government budget to help these mental health facilities.... That being said if the government would stop making all the cuts to the mental health system and to state programs that help in these situations, and if they would stop giving huge tax breaks to all these big businesses and paying people god awful amounts of money to run those big businesses and stop giving the rich more money THEN JUST THEN we might have the kind of money that is needed to deal with those with Mental Illness and there would be enough money to keep Mental Health Facilities going and thriving so that the Mental Health Issues can and could be handled quickly and JUST MAYBE people would not have to live there lives on guard or in fear or as a hostage in their own homes.
