Had another of my lyrical adaptations when I heard Devil Went Down to Georgia today. Hope some of you get a chuckle (or something) out of it. Yakker went to the River, He was lookin to catch some bass. No waitin in line or wasting time, He drug it on down the grass. He turned upstream and began to stroke, Toward the rising sun. Knew where the bass should be, and had to make the run. Past the docks, past the creek, Under the bridge too. With a coffee sip and a sonar blip, And kayak covered with dew Wind picked up and made some chop, But that aint nothin new. Visibility slim when fog rolled in, but still he paddled through. Thought about love and little bout hate, thought about sin. Thought about life but not death, and places that hed been. He dug the blades in the current, And swung that paddle hard. Sun was creepin up the sky, And the spot was pretty far. Current wasnt slowing down, and hands were getting cold. Does what he does not for prize, But because its in his soul. Stump field looming up ahead, But he knew which way to go. Tombstones of once mighty trees, Toppled by the flow. His shoulders began to burn. His strokes were not as crisp. Slid it up upon the shore for stretch, And a much needed piss. Put on his shades to look around, And felt the warming sun. Sat back down and said aloud, Lets get this mission done. Lures on the water, run bass run. Topwaters splash and walk in the sun. Heartbeat speeds but time starts to slow. Dontcha want a bass boat? No, child, no! The big bass shook her head but knew that shed been beat. She spit out a shad and it landed on the seat. He took a pic, took a breath and put her right back in. Now I done fooled you once you big ole girl. Maybe someday well do it again. Lures underwater, run bass run. Crankbaits crank and rattle in the sun. Heartbeat speeds but time starts to slow. Dontcha want a bass boat? No, child, NO !
