Had lunch at Arbat, the newly opened Russian/Uighur restaurant at Mandukhai hotel. The place offers a good selection of dishes that should appeal to any lover of Russian and Central Asian cuisines (soljanka, olivier salad, herring and beet salad, fried lagman, manty etc etc). Pictured is a half/portion of their lagman (I went there with a friend, so we decided to split our dishes). The lagman was good. It had a thick and rich broth with plenty of meat, vegetables and hand-pulled noodles, just the way I like it. Note the side spicy sauce/paste that comes with the dish, which was excellent and, I as I understood, prepared on the premises. The price for the dish was less than 10k, I was actually pretty full after consuming just half of it. We also tried their plov, which was good (but I prefer the one at Chaihana - street cafe near the Russian hospital in 15th micro district better). All items on the menu were reasonably priced. The place is run by Russian speaking people (am not sure about their ethnicity - from somewhere in the former Soviet Union). Interior-wise, it is a rather typical Russian cafe, those of you who have been to Russia, would know what I am talking about. The restaurant does not have windows and is rather dark with back-lit posters of Moscow hanging on the walls. For those of you, who have never been to Russia, dont expect anything palatial or chic from the interior. It is all pretty basic. How to get there: they still didnt have any sign outside the hotel, so if you are interested, just go to the second floor of Mandukhai hotel. Mandukhai hotel is located within a walking distance north-west of the State Department Store. Verdict: a reasonably priced place that should appeal to all people who like Russian and Central Asian food. I am thinking of stopping by again in the near future to try the Russian part of their menu.
