Had my heart shattered the other day at the Dollar General. Doesnt - TopicsExpress

Had my heart shattered the other day at the Dollar General. Doesnt matter what town or the ethnicity of the below mentioned either. I was checking out with a few items that couldnt wait until the next Wal-Mart run and I couldnt help but notice the mama and sweet lil girl that looked to be my oldest ones age behind me waiting to check out. The mother had two items herself to get and while I was trying to gather my bags the cashier began checking them out and the total was like $4.56. The mother seemed relieved and took a breath and as she was handing her $5 bill to the young man she looked down and spoke so softly to her daughter, go ahead, you can have one. At this moment the little girls eyes gleaned and she grabbed a .30 5 piece pack of juicy fruit with the most amazing smile. Now, I was crushed. Maybe I looked at this situation wrong, maybe you just had to see what I saw. I thought to myself, what if that total was just a quarter or so higher, would that little girl been disappointed over a 5 piece pack of gum? Now I by no means have money coming out of my ears but in that moment I realized just how much I and we if youll be honest, take things for granted. Was that her last bit of money? I dont know. She could have been loaded for all I know, but I was so captured in the moment it didnt matter their skin color, what they were wearing, what they bought.. It was a moment that seemed a struggling mother took every last penny she had to make sure she put a smile on her daughters face. And we monogram everything under the sun, buy the best clothes, eat at the finest places, throw the biggest parties, buy a snickers and coke every time we stop. Doesnt mean we cant live our lives in spite of others situations, bad choices, circumstances etc. But look around sometimes, might make you appreciate life a lil more-just like I did that night!
