Had one of those eye opening experiences today! Was in my police uniform when I stopped at a local grocery store. I got what I needed and began checking out. As I did an older gentleman came up to the end of the counter. He began sacking my groceries. I could see the sweat running down his face. Seeing him made me think about what is going on in Missouri. I was thinking to myself if only the two young people had the same desire to work for what they want as this older gentleman had none of that would have happened. None of the people involved would have had to be put in that position. I began walking to my truck as the gentleman followed with my groceries. I got them all put in my truck and the gentleman thanked me for shopping and I turned to him as he began walking away. I stopped him and reached in my pocket and pulled out what cash I had in my pocket which is strange because I dont normally carry cash. I reached my hand out and put the cash in his hand and thanked me. He looks at me with a confused look on his face. He paused, said thank you and walked back inside. I couldnt figure out why he would look so surprised. Not for sure if it was I was a cop or if he just doesnt get tipped. Yes, the gentleman just happened to be black. Just really made me think has it gone back to when no one wants to trust the police or have faith in them. Really hope this country can get back to believing in each other and working together no matter what color.
