Had one very busy day yesterday! Started out at 0700 down at the Bentonville Arkansas Square. It was the World Champion Squirrel Cook-Off. We had 40 teams from all over the US. One of the judges even came from Italy. The winner took home a gift card for Cabelas for $1000.00. Second and third place took home $300.00 and $200.00 respectively. A Henry 22 LR lever action rifle was raffled off. Judging was very tough and I did not envy the judges one bit. The winner was a local team with a squirrel meat loaf and trimmings. Second and third runners up were squirrel tacos with a cherry sauce overlay and squirrel enchalates. Super large crowds with all participating teams serving samples. Never knew squirrel could be served up in so many different ways. Taste like chicken, well not exactly but all were tasty. Zombie attack!! Even the hardcore squirrel eaters like myself had freshly cooked BRAINS (tasted like creamy liver well just a little I guess). Lots of booths and lots to sell. Cant wait to next year, maybe I ll make some squirrel hamburgers; who knows. Next came our Pea Ridge Square Dance RRRumble. After the 1600 set up of the dance floor and tables and all the decorations we had a BCD (Big Chicken Dinner) with all the trimmings around 1800, no squirrel here. Our dance started at 1930 and went till 2200. Then clean up after the dance. Our club sponsored two national callers; a husband and wife team and boy were they great. We had ten squares at the highest point (eight people per square) plus several people that danced every now and then. So many clubs were present and most wore their club colors. We also had a 50/50 pot that made someone very happy and a silent auction which made money for the club. Fun time was had by all! Stopped at a local store (Casseys) and purchased a 25 oz beer and a frozen coffee drink for on the way home (beer was consumed at home). Local temp was in the low fifties, windows open, blankets on, and dreaming around 0130 this morning. What a great day yesterday was!
