Had quite an amazing adventure and heading back home. Walking from the Amtrak to the Metra station I noticed a young girl walk up to several people and see everyone she walked up to shake their heads no. She held her head down and walked ahead. I called out to her and asked her what she needed, 3 dollars to take the bus and El home as I handed her 3 dollars she thanked me and said what a shitty person she feels like having to ask for money just for bus fare. I told her no worries, I am empathetic, I have been there. She opened up to me about all the hardships she has endured in life. I let her know we all have gone through them but to stay positive, it is not what happens to us in life, it is what we do with what happens to us in life. I told her I am still struggling with a fairly recent hardship in my life but I can not wallow in it and let it bring me down, I choose to be positive and happy instead. She told me she was starting a job next week and is determined to turn her life around for her and her child. She smiled at me, shook my hand, asked me my name and said thank you so much Michael, my name is Sara. I told her she was welcome and to have a blessed day, and she ran to catch the bus 1/2 a block away and got on. As much fun as I had, that was by far the highlight, if not the real purpose, of my trip.
