Had the distinct pleasure of a special invitation to join Chestnut Mt. Elementary School today in honor of Veterans Day and join the Honorable and close friend Sheriff Gerald Couch along with many veterans and Public Safety Officials. First and foremost a sincere thank you to the Men and Women who sacrificed so much for the liberty and freedoms we all enjoy today. During the event Sheriff Couch shared a poem written by Charles M. Province that really hit home and while I never want to involve politics with something as special as Veterans Day I feel the need to share that poem...........our elected leaders, lawyers and many others should also read and take notes from this poem. IT IS THE SOLDIER It is the Soldier, not the minister Who has given us freedom of religion. It is the Soldier, not the reporter Who has given us freedom of the press. It is the Soldier, not the poet Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer Who has given us freedom to protest. It is the Soldier, not the lawyer Who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the Soldier, not the politician Who has given us the right to vote. It is the Soldier who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag. Not sure any truer words ever put in writing and again thank you to those who served for all of us!
