Had the funniest experience just before the storm. I was standing next to the base of a tree and heard a commotion above. I looked up to see a robin playing kamikaze with a squirrel! Every time the robin successfully made contact with the squirrel, it would either knock the squirrel off its branch or at least make it do a pull-up with the branch. I was thoroughly impressed by the robins agility. The squirrel was frantic and tried to flee down the tree. But once it saw me standing at the base of the tree it froze for a moment, stared at me, and went retreated back up the tree where, alas, the robin was patrolling and ready to resume its air raid. The squirrel didnt know what to do--it scurried over the entire tree, made several attempts to come back down, but then scurried back up the tree. Finally it resorted to a desperate move--a suicidal jump towards the tree that was about 15 ft over. The tree was too far for the squirrel to successfully land in the canopy--but it reached the tips of the branches so that the canopy broke the fall enough for the squirrel to run away once it hit the ground.
