Had the good fortune of being invited to Hummingbird Ministries Passing the Mantle dialogue last month with Cree Elder/Rev Mary Fontaine from the Presbyterian church in Vancouver. We were honored to hear from our longhouse and Shaker Church elder Gene Harry whose words and ways are very much the ways of our longhouse of our Coast Salish peoples of Southwestern BC. We would do all good to heed the teachings. It sure reminds me of uncle Deno from Katzie and uncle Herb from Tzeacthen or Chehalis teachers and even uncle Frank Malloway. Once you have experience the longhouse over time there are ways and means of doing things like no other. They are honoring and steeped in protocol. Miigwetch (thank you) for listening carefully.
