Had the most interesting afternoon in Luthuli Avenue, in the backstreets of Nairobi, beyond River Road. Last year that place used to be dirty and full of crumbie shops selling fabrics galore. Now it has become Eastleigh, with millions of Somali shops selling masses and masses of electronics. I thought there were only a couple of music shops in Nairobi town and one in each of the Malls. This road has thousands upon thousands of musical instrument shops all lined up next to each other. The buildings have all been renewed. Electronics, mobile phones, tvs, cameras. It is an electronics paradise. I was totally mesmerised. Literally thousands of shops, even branching off into the little side streets. Prices so much cheaper than the usual Malls. We, wazungu, are so misguided with our shopping habits. I thought I was in Dubai or something like that! Stupefied! !!!!
