Had this very conversation with a millennial yesterday---and as I type this I thought - and a couple last week/and I forget how many the week before. Seems like this conversation keeps coming up and we need to do what we can to reach this generation. Seems like we could go a long way by being criticized like the lost people criticized the early church - they negatively called those people christians because they acted so much like Christ. Yes - theyll know we are Christians by our love (that can be displayed EVEN in business meetings where we genuinely disagree BUT love and respect one another enough to seek God together). I particularly think the church needs to HEAR what Rebecca said in the attached article - I would not expect a church to compromise its beliefs to accommodate me,” said Rebecca, a Millennial from Michigan. “To be honest, I am intrigued by their beliefs, and that’s one of the reasons I’m visiting the church.” As I have stated over and over, the 20/30 somethings arent wrapped up in the worship wars and dont expect us to change to accommodate them. They want us to stand firm--they want any style of worship/music to be genuine--and the stats reveal they are attracted to christians where UNITY is REAL and EVIDENT. Please note: not only are they looking at our church, but they are looking at us as individuals and our walk with Christ should be real and evident as well. An Associational Missionary friend of mine (and he is way passed being a millennial) says that he now encourages people to attend a church business meeting at least three times before they join the church. Foir it is in the business meeting of the church where it is truly evident if the people/church iare striving to walk with God or not. That is something to ponder - do w, in our business meetings, portray the right relationship with Christ in our actions and attitudes? thomrainer/2013/10/21/the-millennials-are-rejecting-fighting-churches-and-christians/
