Had to educate a client today about the difference between a web designer, website coder, webmaster, graphic designer, content creator, and IT/Network specialist. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME! I had to draw up a new contract because they were expecting way too much. I knew we were in trouble when they asked me if Id be servicing their network too. I am not an engineer! I told them my hourly rates are between $30-65 whereas an IT/Network specialist rates start at $110. I told them if I had IT/Networking skills I darn sure wouldnt be doing websites and designing graphics! The guy was like so you just and paste? You dont edit what you put on the website? I told him they werent paying me to read stuff....thats the content creators job....they were paying me design stuff! Then the guy goes i thought a webmaster worked on the network too? I had to break it down like a fraction: I work with crayons and blocks, I do not touch wires or computer parts! Folks are so clueless when it comes to this stuff. No wonder a lot of webmasters/designers and IT/Network techs are stressed!
