Had to share the story of EDDIE because its a happy ending for EDDIE and his owner Peter...And SSHAWO played a part in making it happen...After EDDIE was displaced by Sandy he hung around near home...Because of his disability he was easy to spot..He hung around Lincoln,Hamilton and Franklin...He eventually settled in at MaryJo Etheridges colony on Lincoln right up the street from his old home...I would see him many times when I was trapping and could plainly see he wasnt tipped, but being quite trap savvy I never had luck getting him...Until one day in Sept.,MaryJo called and said she was sure we could trap him as he was staying in a shelter on her porch...I did trap him and when I took him to EastCoast and found out he was a previous we knew for sure he used to be someones cat...He was then eartipped and given his shots and since there was no room at that point for him in any foster/shelter situation he was returned to Lincoln..He was easy to spot and we frequently saw him eating and hanging on Lincoln,Franklin,Dupont and Porter....And then we didnt see him anymore...As any caretaker knows, when a cat goes missing we always fear the worst...But,as much as we try the reality of the situation is we cant control what happens to our free roaming cats...But then Peter posted a story on the blog he does, and I was lucky to see it..The story of how his cat, EDDIE,had miraculously found his way HOME after 21/2 of being separated...Peter posted a pic of him and said in the blog that he came home in good shape but with his ear tipped...We instantly knew it was our cat and I contacted Peter with the details of EDDIES adventure...These are the things that keep us going...TNR/ Colony Management is the only humane solution to handling community/ free-roaming cats...Thank you MaryJo Etheridge and everyone else from SSHAWO that had a hand in careing for EDDIE while he was away from home...And thank you Peter James Smith for never giving up on EDDIE and welcoming him back with open arms and a loving home....Enjoy your stay in Florida, and hope to see you and EDDIE when you return.....
