Had to share this beautiful post from my friend Bevan. Something for us all to think about when we head to the polling stations tomorrow ~*~*~ Last election comment. I dont know of any of my friends are undecided but if you are keep this in mind - society is changing regardless of what you think or want. What we think is natural and normal today wasnt fifty years ago, and things will be different in fifty years again. You can either hold onto the present stubbornly in fear, and try to single handedly arrest progress and fail, like every person who has tried to arrest progress has done. Or you can embrace change and look forward to a future where we tackle our problems and build something we are proud of together so that everyone wins. The right has always been the side to try and halt progress. In recent years its been race baiting and beneficiary bashing, all using fiction to make all our lives worse. ALL OF OUR LIVES. Its been men like Don Brash, Cameron Slater, John Key, Colin Craig, along with women like Paula Bennett, Christine Rankin, and Judith Collins who have tried to condense wealth and lock up the poorest and most in need of help to protect their short term interests. This effects us all because it divides and leads us to a place where we are one of the most unequal countries on earth, we have some of the highest imprisonment rates in the world, 1 in 4 kids are cold and hungry, and we are spied on by those who are supposed to work for us. EVERY piece of positive change in your life, and every positive political legacy in the world comes from the left. Democracy? Left. Free roads, health care, education, and weekends? Left. Gay marriage? Left. Racial justice? Left. Womens rights? Left. Childrens rights? Left. 40 hour week? Left. Diversity? Left. All the good is from the left. If youre having a baby and your baby is delivered safely its because of left wing initiatives a hundred years ago to have hospitals built to a high standard by well paid workers, schools to train doctors, and road builders to make sure there was a free route to the hospital built. Your choice is between fear and isolation, or love and togetherness. Both have track records - only one of them has helped us all though.
