Hadhrat Baayazid Bustan RA was a learned saint of his time. Once, he disguised himself as a Jew and like this, he went I to a synagogue and sat there listening to what the Rabbi had to say. In the middle of the ceremony, the Rabbi stopped and said: I sense a Muslim in our midst. He was discovered and called to the front. The people suggested that he be killed as he had no right to be there. The Rabbi disagreed and said he will first be questioned regarding his Deen and if he is unable to answer them, he will be killed. Baayazid was asked the following questions whereupon he answered them all correctly without hesitation: What is 1 and not 2? Allah What is 2 and not 3? Day and night What is 3 and not 4? Qalam, Kursi, Lowhe Mahfoodh What is 4 and not 5? The four Kitaabs What is 5 and not 6? Salaah What is 6 and not 7? The world was created in six days. What is 7 and not 8? 7 days of the week. What is 8 and not 9? 8 angels carrying the Arsh. What is 9 and not 10? 9 miracles of Moosa (A.S.) What is 10 and not 11? For every good deed, Allah promises a reward multiplied by 10. What is 11 and not 12? Brothers of Yusuf (A.S.) What is 12 and not 13? 12 months of the year. What is 13 and not 14? The dream of Yusuf (A.S.): 11 stars + sun + moon. What is 14 and not 15? 7 heavens and 7 earths The Rabbi was dumbstruck and could not understand how Baayazid knew his Deen so well. He continued to ask questions of a higher level. The Rabbi asked: Which inanimate object made Tawaaf of the Kabah? Baayazid replied: The ship of Nuh (A.S.) at the time of the flood. The Rabbi then asked: Which grave moved with its occupant? To which Baayazid replied: Yunus (A.S.) in the belly of the whale. The Rabbi then asked: On which piece of land did the sun shine on once and never again? To which Baayazid responded saying: When the sea split for Moosa (A.S.). The Rabbi then asked: Who spoke a lie but will enter Jannah and who spoke the truth but will enter Jahannum? To which Baayazid responded by saying: The brothers of Yusuf (A.S.) spoke a lie and told their father that he was dead whereas he was in the well. Although they lied, their father repented on their behalf so they will enter Jannah. The Jews told the Christians that they believe in the wrong God and the Christians told the Jews that they believe in the wrong God. Although they were both speaking the truth, they will both enter Jahannum. When the Rabbi had nothing more to ask, Baayazid asked him what is the key to Jannah and the Rabbi hesitated. The people in the synagogue said: But he answered all his questions without hesitation so cant you atleast answer this simple question of his? All these years you have been preaching to us about what will take us to Heaven so answer him. Thus, the Rabbi answered: I will answer his question on condition that all of you take an oath not to accept his religion. Baayazid then asked his question a second time and the Rabbi answered by saying that the key to Jannah is reciting the Kalima. There and then, the whole gathering accepted Islam. All in all. There were 96 Jews excluding the Rabbi, who accepted Islam.
