Hafa Adai! Please see attached news release from Senator Rory Respicio. News Release For Immediate Release AG Backs Respicio On Airport Voter Suppression Issue October 30, 2014– The Attorney Generals Office has responded to Senator Rory J. Respicios concerns on voter suppression and has instructed the airport general manager to recall his letter sent to employees regarding voting on Election Day. Respicio wrote to Attorney General Lenny Rapadas yesterday about his concerns with a letter sent to Guam International Airport Authority employees by Executive Manager Chuck Ada. In the letter, Ada informed employees that there were certain restrictions to their right to vote. I am pleased that the Attorney General responded so quickly to my concerns and agreed that the letter sent by GIAAs Executive Manager was inappropriate and infringed on the right to vote by government of Guam employees, Respicio stated. The right to vote is fundamental and should be protected by all means necessary. This is why Guam law affords government and private sector employees these rights. This law is not subject to interpretation or amendment by a political appointee of this current Administration, or any private sector employer. Respicio, who is the legislative chairman on Labor and Election Reform, said all government of Guam directors should read the letter from the Attorney General and follow the law which clearly provides that employers (public and private) must afford their employees two hours to go to the polls and cast their votes. A copy of the letter from the Attorney General is attached. -30---
