Hairy Piker Hi there, what a few weeks Ive had or rather missed - TopicsExpress

Hairy Piker Hi there, what a few weeks Ive had or rather missed out on, things were going so well then as usually happens I suffered a set back after my liver operation on July 9th last month. Hope you are all well and without wanting to bore you with the details I picked up an internal infection that sent my body temp to 38.6 degrees last Tuesday and I was a very sick puppy. Not an uncommon result of this type of surgery but knocked me for 6 of the worst, the better news is that after a few days in Warwick and now in Coventry hospitals they have the fever under control and seem to have addressed the bile fluid infection with I/V antibiotics and latterly oral ones which Im on now. The surgeons have not ruled out some kind of hypodermic drainage procedure but the offending fluid appears to be snuggled up to some important bits that do not want messing about with. Hopefully Ill get the green light to return home early next week although its set my recovery and return to all things angling back by a few days. Ive really missed getting out on the bank and being a couch potato has never been my thing, I did get dropped off at Snitterfield Res nr Stratty by Mel a couple of weeks back and spend a lovely afternoon watching my mate Andy Lewis catching a netful of crucians. A gorgeous but crafty fish, the scene took me back to when I used to fish Nottingham Anglers Associations Bestwood Duckponds in the early 70s, even then this wonderful creature impressed me with its finicky bites and odd behaviour, tiny bubbles and the occasional fin bristling leap out of the water. I tried my hand on Andys kit for half an hour but was way off the pace and despite the abundance of them I failed to put one in the net, plenty of tench, skimmers and roach but no pixies as Andy likes to call them. He finished up with over 50 fish and I took a couple of pics having brought along my old Canon 30D or D30 SLR which I havent used for ever favouring the self takes on my Canon G5 with rotating screen. A cheap and cheerful purchase are G5s these days but produce excellent results, anyway that was a couple of weeks back when I thought I was starting to see the wood for the trees. So why the pic of the motorbike????? Well the BAT (Black Africa Twin) was something Id always wanted to own, not necessarily this model but having struggled to pass my bike test a few years ago this fit the bill perfectly. As the heading to this post suggested I had something in mind maybe an article or a DVD, a series perhaps (Hairy Bikers Beware) but in the end it came to nothing and aside from very fine days I rarely used it. So with another project in mind Ive decided to sell it on and get some funds in the kitty for my next Mr Toad adventure, which is much more closer to home angling wise. Suffice to say Im blatantly using this update to try and flog said 1996/97 P reg Honda XRV 750 which has just got 20K on the clock, Ive had the seat customised professionally (the original wedgy one was never going to work) and added a new German manufactured deflection screen (I still have the old original screen somewhere if I can find it). It has a brand new rear tyre and the condition of the bike is good for its age with the normal pitting on the aluminium wheels and a few bits of superficial oxidisation here and there. Its been garaged for the last 4 years and always starts first time & Ive never taken it out in the rain. Im looking for £2750 or a very near offer, but for the asking price above I will throw in a very clean Shoei Tribal XL helmet (not the Nitro pictured). If you anyone who might be interested then please send me a private message, Ive just put a years MOT ticket on it but it has run out of tax and there is currently no insurance. I know I can advertise it on the bay, gumtree, bike trader, local free rags etc but Id rather it went to another person in my network if anyone is interested. Im also looking at reducing my guitar collection but Ill save that for another day, theres no rush or any panic to get anything in order. Ive also got a 60 wide Polarkraft Semi Vee 12 4 aluminium boat with a 5hp Suzuki 4 Stroke outboard coming up, not the Jon Boat youll have seen me in, Im hanging onto that PolarKraft model for the time being. Well thats the adverts out of the way, hope you have been catching a few while Ive been laid up, what a year weatherwise, I cant remember it being as good for angling for many a moon and I know some of the rivers have been producing the goods when there has been some colour and still waters have really been on song. No matter the fish are still there, they will be waiting for anyone like me who has been unable to get out for whatever reason, the Shimano trade shows start in September so that will also curtail my midweek dangling but Im hell bent on putting some time in on Rutland Water for the zeds, pike and perch. Ive loved the place since it first opened and fished for trout with my dad on the boats and i the old closed season had fluff chucking knock ups on the bank with my Trentman AC mates and other fellow Nottingham anglers. Fly fishing is something I do enjoy and word up is that the fry bashing is going to be mad this year which is one of the most aggressive style of trout fishing and almost like floater fishing for carp. Watching rainbows and the odd big brownie smash into a shoal f baitfish has to be seen to be believed and when you get a bite.......hang on! But its the vertical jigging that has really got me more excited than when I was a kid trying to sleep the night before a club coach outing, Im getting better and all geared up now with some excellent mentoring from Willem Stolk, Andy Lush & James Garner. Theres still some way to go but its already keeping me awake at night now and we are several weeks away from it opening its doors to this type of angling. Before I leave I would just like to apologise for not being able to attend the MNDA event at Linear Fisheries this Tuesday for the hog roast and mingling, also Kev Greens celebration day at Lemington lakes. Both initiates went brilliant from what I have heard with a fantastic turnout, Id got lifts planned with Mel for the MNDA and Mick Brown who was kindly going to chaffeur me to Kevs day and back home but sadly due to my poor health I had to cancel both and spend those days on an I/V drip. I met an angler in Warwick hospital in the corridors visiting his wife whose was poorly and he planned on going to Kev Greens do at Lemington the day after, I was clearly able to explain my absence to him but for those who paid to go in and maybe hoped to see me Im sorry but it was beyond my control. :( Well thats about all for now, Ill post more stuff on later but in the meantime, good luck, great angling and thanks for all the support as ever. Kindest regards Jan Vrooooooommmmmm!!!!!!
