Hajj Secretariat Prepared For 2013 Hajj Ghana--Hon Abdul Rauf Ibrahim Tanko, the Chairman of the Hajj Board has noted that the 2013 Hajj would officially commence on the 17th September 2013. He said these at an evening encounter with Muslim editors, show hosts, producers and preachers of Islam at the Pilgrims Affairs of Ghana-National Hajj Secretariat in Accra. “The Hajj secretariat is expected to airlift about 5424 prospective pilgrims to perform the Hajj rituals this year,” he noted. According to him, two flights have been scheduled to take off on the 17th September, to Medina, Saudi Arabia and the will continue till 28th of September2013 when the list flights will take off. He explained to the media that Ghana’s quota was reduced from 6780 to 5424 (20%) due to the expansion works in the holy cities in Saudi Arabia. He added that the package has three main features which are Accommodation, Food and Transportation. The Chairman disclosed that the deadline for payment of this year’s Hajj is 15th August 2013, and the Visa and Manifest would be based on purely first come first serve and monies would not be taken from pilgrim after the deadline. Touching on the health issues, he said prospective pilgrims are expected to take vaccination at the health centres and acquire their vaccination cards before the processing of visa. According to him, the secretariat would provide each pilgrim with a face masks whiles in Saudi Arabia for the purpose of preventing Corona virus outbreak. “Hajj medical team is well prepared to educate, help prevent and take all measures to control any kid of disease that Ghanaian pilgrims would be exposed to,” said the chairman.
