Hall of Failures HAGAR: SUBMISSION FAILURE Will you continue to be in a job where you feel uncomfortable? I guess you will naturally say a big ‘no’. Why didn’t you ask who will mistreat you? Somehow, we tend to think that any uncomfortable environment justifies our exit. That is not how successful people look at work. But that was how Hagar, Abraham’s maid, looked at her treatment by her mistress. Hagar’s encounter with an angel revealed what all of us have to do in an uncomfortable environment. He told her to go back and submit to her mistress. I believe the reason why the angel told her to go back was because she had not maximized her learning experiences at the workplace. She couldn’t have succeeded on her own because her capacity to survive the world outside Abraham’s home was less. The other day I was considering that if you had a bucket full of water and are unable to carry it, what could be the problem? You are likely to yell ‘the weight!’ I think it is your strength. If your strength is at level 20 and the weight level is at 50, will that change your mind? Submission is just an admission that you need to understudy successful people to internalize core principles and behaviours before you can conquer your mission of building a desired life or business.
