Hamad Medical Corporation awarded top honors to 10 winning projects at the fifth annual Stars of Excellence staff award ceremony on Thursday night. The event was held at the St Regis Hotel and was attended by approximately 500 members of staff. This year, the winning projects were selected from a total of 372 submissions, which sets the record for the highest number of submissions ever received for the awards. Each year, winners are chosen based on their performance against key criteria such as the application of international best practices, evidence of direct improvements resulting from the project, and how the project has impacted patient care and the overall patient experience. Hanan Al Kuwari PhD, Managing Director of HMC said the awards ceremony is an important platform to recognize and reward the hard work of all HMC staff. “Every year the quality of submissions we receive speaks volumes about the excellent work being done at HMC. It is important to acknowledge and reward teamwork in organizations, as successful partnerships are crucial to an organization’s success. I am always impressed by the commitment shown by the staff towards raising the standards of healthcare in Qatar.” Nasser al Naimi, Executive Director of the Center for Healthcare Improvement said that all the submissions were categorized within HMC’s three pillars of: Health, Education and Research. “The quality of submissions was extremely high and came from all areas of the organization. The winning projects demonstrate the extremely high quality of work that takes place at HMC for the benefit of our patients. An example of such work is the Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Prevention Program, which won the Managing Director’s Special Award. The prevention of VTE, which can lead to Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), is a key patient safety initiative for HMC.
