Hamas has been designated a terrorist organization alongside Al Qaeda and Boko Haram by the United States, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Canada, and the European Union for decades Hamas has killed over 400 Israelis and 25 Americans since 1993 Since Israel ended its occupation of Gaza in 2005, the number of rocket attacks have been steadily increasing 8,000 rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel since 2005, killing 44 Israelis In 2008 a Palestinian gunman unleashed an AK-47 into a school in Israel killing eight helpless children before shooting himself, but was publicly called a hero by Hamas (although condemned by Fatah). SOLUTION? If Israel dismantles its harsh security program, they will be attacked with suicide bombers and rocket attacks just like in the 60s and 70s. If Hamas puts away all their guns and rockets and disbands, Israel will not bomb Gaza anymore. These two statements are not disputable, it is as simple as that. Both must happen for lasting peace, but the correct order is the latter before the former. If that happened, it would pave the way for both sides to begin to sympathize, even a little bit, with the other side. But each outbreak of violence started by an angry young Hamas member ( though not for lack of reason) leads only to more violence and breaks down every inch of progress that has been made til then. It dashes the hopes of widows, mothers without sons, daughters without fathers, all for the honor of one’s dead grandfather. It’s the story of Romeo and Juliet, of the Bloods and the Crips, of every feud since the beginning of time. For ANY progress on the land reparations, settlements, etc to be made, there has to be no more violence for a not-insignificant amount of time. No more 18-month ceasefires.Israel has made peace overtures; it is time for Palestinians to take the plate. Reject Hamas and everything it does and peaceful cohabitation will come.
