Hamilton Girls High visit went well today. Always enjoy interacting with young people. Actually most of my day had a youth or leadership theme. Thanks to Nicole Porima Dep Head Girl HGHS for looking after me today. Then I chaired our Young People Steering groups meeting where the main agenda item was checking in on the progress of the citys Youth Action Plan. This looks very exciting - still work to be done but with the stakeholder engagement and Youth Council input (esp Chamanthee, Jason and Naomi) its really looking like a masterpiece. Afternoon was spent at a session at the Hamilton Youth Council Youth Forum at Wintec. Inspirational guest speakers followed by some discussion and input from participants about what is great about Hamilton and what can be improved. Finishing off the day with a Womens Entrepreneurial acknowledgement evening at the Meteor in esteemed company. Governer General Sir Gerry Mateparae, Mayor Julie Hardaker, SODA CEO Cheryl Reynolds and business woman Anna Stretton all spoke about challenges, courage, perserverence and success of NZ women in all endeavours throughout NZs history. Inspirational. Finished the night watching club netball at Dio school. Then to top it all off, its my eldest sons birthday today. Happy Birthday Thomas!
