Hands down, THE BEST post on Why Working Out = A High Quality of Life! Better than a boatload of research studies/medical journal articles, IMHO! (Hat tip to Barb W.] Its written by a young uber fit mom, Brynn Harrington tinyurl/kobkwwr , who also happens to lead the People Growth team at Facebook. From the backwards perspective of this 65 year-old grandma who leads NOTHING! (unless you want to count the Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan team at a top hospital--:O)), Brynn is right on the money! Lifelong exercise means always carrying the grocery bags to the car, always taking the stairs, hiking the Rockies, Zion & Cadillac with your family, shlepping your grandkids & their heavy diaper bags + stroller up 3 flights of stairs without bodily injury, meeting wonderful inspiring new friends at the gym, including Ann & Jane Esselstyn (& so many more), staying on the dance floor the whole evening, opportunities to learn something new everyday, hiking the secret Ho Chi Minh Trail in La Jolla with a FB reader-now friend (E.G.), learning to kayak for the first time last year, exploring hidden parts of industrial Cleveland on a bike, and looking forward to hiking Englands Coast-to-Coast for a second time in 2016. Please read Wellfestos whole post. Its so WORTH IT! Its NEVER TOO LATE TO BEGIN! (NOTE: #s 4, 5, & 9 are my favorites on Brynns list, so I posted those completely--go to her post to read the rest) 10 Things I Want My Daughter to Know About Working Out. [H.L. note: My two sons & daughter-in-law totally get Brynns 10 Things. Pretty sure, my grandson & granddaughter are watching carefully, & will soon learn all ten, too. At 3 & 5, theyre already super hikers] 1. Strength equals self-sufficiency. 2. Fitness opens doors. 3. The bike (or the gym) is the new golf course. 4. Exercise is a lifestyle, not an event. Being an active person isn’t about taking a class three times a week at the gym. It’s about things like biking to the grocery store and parking your car in the back of the lot and walking instead of taking a cab and catching up with friends on a hiking trail instead of a bar stool. 5. Health begets health. Healthy behavior inspires healthy behavior. Exercise. Healthy eating. Solid sleep. Positive relationships. These things are all related. 6. Endorphins help you cope. 7. Working out signals hard-working. 8. If you feel beautiful, you look beautiful. 9. Nature rules. And if you’re able to hike/run/bike/swim/ski/snowshoe, you can see more of it. 10. Little eyes are always watching. Definitely!! (my oldest son is now running the Catalina 50 miler with his Dad--the Lab Rat & son #2 will undoubtedly be at the gym & playing indoor soccer this weekend)
