Hanover Not Giving Up On Kleefeld Water Upgrade The Reeve of Hanover says the municipality is still waiting for funding to construct a water pipeline from Grunthal to Kleefeld. A pipeline is needed to dilute Kleefeld water and lower barium content. Reeve Stan Toews says its an expensive project and without government funding, they cant tackle it. Its a fairly good priority for Hanover but as far as the province and the feds are concerned, the water is not of poor enough quality that its high on their list, says Toews. In 2012, the municipality stated this project had a price tag of between $1.5 million and $2 million. Earlier this year, Hanover sent a letter to St.Pierre council asking if the village would have any interest tapping into this line. The village provided the following response: ...the village has been working on strategies of providing our community with treated potable water and distribution. We have also been in conversation with the Manitoba Water Services Board who indicate that partnering with a fellow municipality would increase our chances for financial assistance. Please be advised that the village of St.Pierre is very interested in connecting to your future waterline from Grunthal to Kleefeld. Toews notes Hanover has been applying for funding for years. One of these years I guess it will be our turn again to get some funding, says Toews.
