Happened that an elderly granny was seated next to us when we were having dinner at Clementi Hawker Centre. She was happy to see Michela and started talking to her. I came back with my food and they were still talking. Then, she started chatting with me... Of how cute Michela is, how big the eyes of Aniston, etc.. Then i saw her eating only dessert. Became curious and asked if she had her dinner. She said that was her dinner and it was given free by the dessert owner. I figured that she was only left with $3 and she had meant for it to be her transport fees back home. I stuffed $10 to her. She looked happy. I asked where are her children. She replied that she was acty in Clementi looking for her son to get some money. Becos due to excessive contact with water (she is a dish washer), her hands are in pain most of the time, as such she had to e hospitalised 3days. Due to this reason, she cannot work these few days and thus, she ran out of money. So it turned out that her son is busy at work and asked her to go home first. I asked why isnt she staying with her son. She replied that her son & daughter in law coax her to sign sth that she dunno what it was as she cant read. The next thing she knew- she cannot stay in that flat anymore. It belonged to the son and DIL. She is now staying in a rented flat instead. We went on chatting... On and off. She was still happy to see Michela and Aniston. Talking to Michela once a while.. I asked if she has grandchildren. She replied yes. She used to be their care taker when they were young. Now all grown up but none of them had come to visit her or take care of her. After awhile, i told her to get some dinner for herself with te money i gave her. Then i found out that she dont bear to use that money so she said she will take bread that she has at home. I stuffed another $10 to her. This time, she looked grateful. We finished our dinner and i got Michela to give her a good hug before saying bye to her. She was very happy. Actually, all the while i kept asking myself, in what way can i help her. At that moment, i felt totally helpless, and useless. All i could do was to give her as much money as i had with me. She is defintely 1 of the many cases where children abandon them. To all sons and daughters, pls always remember, without ur parents, without you. When they were tight with money, they still provided for you. Now that you have grown up and settled down, no matter how tight you are, still provide for them. Because if you dont, one day the exact same thing will happen to you.
