Happening at the Maine Historical Society: Friday, February 7, 7PM - The Searchers: The Making of an American Legend Pulitzer Prize-winning author Glenn Frankel shines a spotlight on Portland native son and legendary filmmaker, John Ford, in this presentation on his new book. The Searchers offers a rich and nuanced anatomy of the classic John Wayne western, and the complex, true story about Indian captivity it was based on. Frankel is Director of the School of Journalism and G.B. Dealey Regents Professor in Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. He was a longtime Washington Post reporter, editor, and bureau chief. Boston University Associate Professor of Humanities Kevin Stoehr, co-author of Ride, Boldly Ride: History of the American Western Movie, introduces Frankel.
