Happening today UPDATE Citizen Kanda Calef brought two ballot initiatives before the Title Board. That Board decides whether initiatives meet the requirements to seek petitions for a ballot. The two initiatives were (this is the nutshell perspective): 1. Requiring that urban renewal projects like C4C go to a vote of the people. Unfortunately, the Title Board did not accept this initiative. Basically, they didnt believe it was a single subject issue. They also didnt believe that the city has authority over the URA. No word, yet, on whether Calef will try again. 2. Requiring that the City Attorney be elected by public vote. Currently, the city attorney is hired by the mayor and has, without exception, opined in the mayors favor when theres been a dispute on C4C related issues. The Title Board accepted Calefs language, and if she gets the required number of signatures (number is uncertain--probably about 20k), the question of whether the city attorney should be elected will go on the April 2015 ballot. If it passes, the first City Attorney election would be in November 2015.
