Happiness is of vital importance to us as humans. We desire it - TopicsExpress

Happiness is of vital importance to us as humans. We desire it more than any other element of life. It is, however, a very fleeting substance based almost wholly upon circumstance. Even more tragic is the fact that happiness is highly addictive. It is directly linked to things. It matters not what the things are, so long as we have enough of them. The sad news is that there is never enough to keep us truly happy. Therein lies the horror of being addicted to happiness. It always results in the procurement of things. We pile them up, count them, monitor the neighbors things, and when we run completely out of room we store them off-site in storage buildings. The obsession over happiness can always be detected by the overuse of two possessive pronouns: my and mine. The things of happiness are never satisfied until they own our hearts. God is removed from the throne and the keys to our storage buildings take His place. A.W. Tozer said, “Our woes began when God was forced out of His central shrine and things were allowed to enter. Within the human heart things have taken over. Men have now by nature no peace within their hearts, for God is crowned there no longer, but there in the moral dusk, stubborn and aggressive usurpers fight among themselves for first place on the throne.” All of these things are temporal. The landfills are full of our things. Things that we once could not live without are reduced to garbage and the only real thing, our life, is left empty and depleted. Jesus focused upon this when He said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” ~ John 10:10 God knows all about things. He created a world full of things BEFORE He created man. His intent was that things always would be subservient to man. Sin has reversed the roles—now mankind is the slave to things. It’s time for a revolution! Throw down the idols of your own making. Seek first the kingdom of God and all of these things will be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)
