Happy 1st Birthday Monsieur Cabek! From that little furball in the carryon with Jordyn - to a calm and peaceful puppy happy to go anywhere anytime... I decided to take off the summer to really enjoy you..... little one who I loved for 2 years before you were born. Out of nowhere, you got so sick -so FAST. You went through misery, and almost succumbed. You suffered like I cant imagine but - you kept that life in your eyes and I saw it every day even though you could hardly lift your head those few days. You fought through it all. Now, today - we celebrate your first birthday and it feels like a miracle of sort considering where you were and where you are now. You wont get a nice big filet today - or ever. You will have a bowl of your novel protein challenge of Kangaroo/Oats. But - you are gaining weight, getting a little muscle on your bones. Thats awesome. Your life will be special diet, medications with slow progress. Thats ok - you are alive and doing amazing! We will go through this next challenge of allergies with atopy (who remembers Czars lifetime of allergies/secondary skin infections) with a that I hope more than anything in the moment are merely food allergies that can be easily controlled. Inasmuch as you follow in Czars footsteps, this challenge, I hope ----- will not be for you as it was for him. It will be a lifetime of baths with prescription shampoos and treatments but - control is what we will work toward. No matter all that you have gone through your first year - it couldnt have been more difficult, the summer couldnt have been worse really, you kept getting stronger. You became an Ambassador for your breed, convincing everybody at the Specialty Clinic that German Shepherds CAN be amazingly gentle, well behaved dogs. Thats pretty big! Your story has motivated people to research and research again when getting a puppy and to trust nothing that is not on paper right under your nose. Your story has taught people that bad things DO happen to innocent puppies, and that people are not always who they profess to be and certainly, what people say is not always the truth. Hard lessons. Your challenges have not been for naught and for you and for that I remain very grateful. Thats pretty big too. You are a happy, silly guy filled with love. You are curious about everything, you are not the best listener - thats my fault because we lost a lot of time while you were sick/recovering and I let you get away with a lot. You can make some noise but I think Ive heard you bark maybe twice. You were and are The Chosen One and there are so many reasons that you ended up my puppy. You love people and people love you. You think life is a big game, dogs are put near you to play, people are put near you to love you. Youre right. Love you little Cabekster, and today we celebrate the end of this past year with a bowl of Kangaroo/Oats, a swim, then a special bath. You made it - today you turn 1. Im really grateful for that! Its all good from here forward.
