Happy 2015 SMMErs! In reflecting on the past year, were touched that our network of volunteers helped send so many letters in November (over 7,000 according to our estimations), surpassing the total from both 2012 & 2013 combined. The unprecedented turnout this year did not come without its challenges. We’ve heard from a number of participants whose SMME letter request never arrived at its destination. While we are aware of a few instances in which letters are still being sent out, we deeply apologize if your SMME letter request was never received by the addressee. There are a slew of reasons to explain this kind of lapse, ranging from getting lost in the mail, typos, or to our volunteers not being able to fulfill their requests due to unforeseen circumstances (we had one volunteer deliver a baby during SMME IV). As a non-profit, fully-volunteer run project with no financial backers or donors, everything we do from developing the website to organizing volunteers is a labor of love. As such, we unfortunately can not guarantee the kind of reliability of say, a large corporation. (In fact, the one thing we can assure you is that some letters will get lost throughout the lifespan of this project.) Despite this inevitability, it doesn’t mean we aren’t constantly working to improve and be more efficient. We are. As we continue trying to make SMME as awesome as possible, we ask for your patience, understanding and forgiveness. Thank you.
