Happy 33rd Birthday to you baby boy! 18 years ago- on this exact date, a life altering event changed us all forever. I recall riding in that speeding ambulance holding on to your motionless hands while our parents trailed in a distressing pursuit. A catastrophic tackle on unfamiliar turf rendered you immobile. Hours after being in the ER a white coat came out to tell us that the injury was in deed severe - the words tear drop fracture, permanent, spinal cord, damage, similar to Christopher Reeves simultaneously echoed in our ears; I scurried down a long, seemingly dark, hallway and hysterically collapsed onto a restroom floor as every... ounce... of oxygen... was sucked out of my body. I was sick. Today, you are a man that has beat many odds- statically, physically and spiritually and for that, I am so thankful to our maker. I am extremely grateful for our late mother who taught me what to do (yes, I took notes) and to your boys that have been there since day one - they have no clue how much their loyalty has meant during this plight. Now, as WE continue on this journey together, I plan to guide you, love you to life (as mommy would say), drive you completely nuts, fight for you, and keep you laughing for eternity!
