Happy 40th to me! I was reflecting as I reached this ripe OLD age, and thought Id share three things I feel are sage advice and which Ive held on to (although you can dismiss this post as just some annoying windbag): 1. I dont agree with the cliche that says the key to life is not to listen to anyone, or something like that, and doing what you feel is best free from others opinions. Its all about listening to the right people in your life and ignoring the wrong ones. 2. A quote by Mike Ditka (although a few people have said similar quotes): Success isnt permanent. Failure isnt fatal. Once you can ignore the false euphoria of achieving whatever one believes will carry them forever, you will be able to focus and maintain a more relative and realistic approach to life. Conversely, never dwell on failure, just try to improve and understand that you cant go backwards. So, accept things, make adjustments, and move on. The key is forward progress in life. 3. A quote by Mario Andretti: Love what you do. Believe in your instincts. And youd better be able to pick yourself up and brush yourself off every day. While life is not always fair, it is manageable. It is a matter of attitude and confidence. There is so much in that quote where everyone can remember to remain positive, focused, and learn to better trust oneself. If you feel like your instincts have failed you, because they have failed all of us at one time or another, learn from your failings and make adjustments so you can make better decisions in the future. Onward and upward!
