Happy 79th Birthday to the #SocialSecurity program, which was signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 14, 1935. The creation of Social Security has been one of the Democratic Party’s greatest achievements: it makes a fundamental promise to the American people that if they work hard, their work will be rewarded with a financially secure retirement. Unfortunately, many Congressional Republicans support wholly or partially privatizing Social Security. These actions would weaken the Social Security program and jeopardize the financial security of America’s retirees. I can assure you I’ll always fight to protect Social Security and preserve the benefits promised to current and future generations.
