Happy Aloha Friday, Yall. Bear with me as Im going to keep mentioning this until they meet their goal. If you live on the Big Island, please contribute to keep the Honokaa Peoples Theatre open by helping them buy a digital projector to stay in business. Even if you just donate a dollar to their kickstarter campaign (link below). These classic cinemas are a thing of the past, and that is a shame. Yes, I like to go see movies at the cineplex in Kona or Hilo, but do those chains hold music concerts with local and mainland musicians? Do they support the local jazz band? Do they provide a venue for hula and other cultural activities? Do they support and promote local film makers? Or even serve refreshments at non-gouging prices like the Peoples Theatre does? Honokaa Peoples Theatre is a cultural gem and a strong positive force in our north Big Island community. Once they are gone, not only will we have no movie venue in our part of the island, but we will have lost something far greater, a piece of ourselves and our history - and that comes from the heart and cannot be replaced.
