Happy Anniversary to the most wonderful parents in the world who - TopicsExpress

Happy Anniversary to the most wonderful parents in the world who relentlessly give to all without asking for anything in return. In was the year of 1969 when a country boy from Centerville, TN joined the US Army to protect our freedoms. Guy Davidson was stationed at Aberdeen, MD just outside Baltimore, MD when a Yankee girl from Elkton, MD stole his heart at a NCO Club on base. Betty S Davidson was a very shy girl barely out of high school with her girlfriends begging her to go and have a good time. Elkton where my Mom grew up is 35 miles south of Philadelphia. She met a true southern gentleman that night. Before she met my Dad she had never known anyone man from the south. My Dad is a good ol Tennessee boy with deep roots embedded in the Volunteer State. My Dads Southern charm was almost too much for Mom to handle and it was love at first sight. Their love quickly grew, and my Mom could not resist a man in a uniform, especially since my Dad had the hair style of Elvis and he ever resembled Elvis. Dad stole my Moms heart on that dance floor as he asked her to dance and his thick southern accent, and gentle touch took away the shyness of a northern star that night. So their relationship began and all was going well. I am just like my Dad and not a shy person, and I know I have many of his wonderful qualities. Like me, Dad will go right after on anything he wants. Dad quickly fell in love with Mom. Their relationship went on for several more weeks, but something had to give. Dad was in his Advanced Infantry and Airborne training, but he knew eventually he would have to leave Maryland. That time finally arrived a few months later and Dad was in love with my Mom. He knew he could not stay in Maryland, so he asked my Mom to make a difficult sacrifice of leaving her baby brother, Mike Steele and her parents. My Grandmother did not want my Mom to leave, and my existence in this world was in jeopardy of never existing. So my parents broke up causing heart wrenching pain to both of them. Just when it was a forgone conclusion to the end of a relationship that was perfect in every way, my Dad found a pay phone to call my Mom. Crying and heartbroken Dad called and my Grandmother answered and immediately told my Dad to move on. Dad had asked Mom to move with him back home to Nashville and that terrified my Mom. She did not want to leave her family, especially moving to what seemed like a foreign world to her in Tennessee. So on a bitterly cold night in Elkton, MD, my Dad poured his heart out and did not want to lose Mom. Still my Grandmother pushed back. The sound of foot steps could be heard coming down the stairs. It was my Grandfather a strong Irish man whom looked like Ted Williams. Yes my Grandfather made it to the minor leagues and pro sky would had made it to the Majors if not for being drafted to fight the Germans in Europe in 1943-1945. My Grandfather simply stated if those 2 love each other, there is nothing we can do. In no time Dad was on the front porch embracing Mom after what seemed like the end of their relationship which had been over for 2 weeks, but like myself, Dad does not give up easily. The rest is history. Six months after my parents met in that NCO club, love prevailed and they married in Elkton, MD in a church that has been around since the Revolutionary War days. Mom packed up her stuff and with tear filled eyes left her home driving in her 1966 Mint Green Ford Mustang. I am sure it was painful leaving. I did it in Sept of 1997 after meeting a girl in Jupiter/Palm Beach FL, but I came back home in 2009, but Jupiter will always be my second home. So Mom sailed off into an unknown world, but was lucky to be going to Tennessee where we know how to treat people well, and most true southern people have a heart of gold and never go down without fighting for what they believe in. So Mon cones to Nashville being greeted by my Grandparent Davidsons as well as 3 of my Dads brothers and 4 wonderful sisters whom took my Mom in and turned her into a Southern Woman over time learning how to make chicken and dumplings along with much much more. Finally after a few years I came into their life, and Im very lucky to have the patents I do. My Dad gave 42 years of service in the US Army being highly decorated for his service and putting is life on the line to protect our freedoms. Dad retired in 2007. Mom gave 37 years to helping Veterans at the VA/Vanderbilt Medical Center retiring in 2005. I love you Mom and Dad. Happy Anniversary. Thanks Dad for never giving up on Mom and letting love lead you in the right direction. I think we all know love is like a river. It flows in many directions and along the way objects can find themselves in the middle of the stream, but the river will find a way to continue flowing.
