Happy Australia Day People!!! Hope you enjoy a VB, crank the backyard cricket, have a yarn with ya mates, listen to the hottest 100, eat some snags, kebabs, sushi or curry, and also remember what the day symbolises (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_Day). We think we have a fascinating multi cultural country. Weve worked on hundreds of weddings with various cultural traditions and it is amazing to understand how rich and diverse our nation is. In many respects we are all so lucky to live in this bloody awesome place! We do have a pretty checkered past though and some of the chapters of our history arent too crash hot. After some more reading, weve decided to register with Recognise, the peoples movement to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian constitution. Recognise provides a chance for Australia to acknowledge the first chapter of our national story, and to forge our future together - after so many chapters apart (recognise.org.au). On this issue, and pending the outcome of the upcoming NSW election, we think it would be a positive symbolic gesture if come March 28, Goat Island in Sydney Harbour is returned to Aboriginal ownership. It would herald the next chapter in the unfolding story of NSW and our journey towards true healing as a unified and reconciled nation. Were not wanting to get too opinionated or preachy at White Tree HQ on what is supposed to be an enjoyable day for all Australians, but we feel it is a day to discuss and evaluate our nations history and future together..........in amongst a few drinks, tunes, laughs and leg spinners.
