Happy Birthday Helmuth Rilling! Maestro Rillings lifetime of music-making has touched lives around the world for generations, and for all of us at hänssler CLASSIC, he has been a friend, an inspiration and our guiding star since even before the label began. The story of Rillings life-long service to the music of J.S. He is co-founder and Artistic Director of the Oregon Bach Festival which since its inception in 1970 has become one of America’s most prestigious music festivals. Rilling has been honored and feted by governments and cultural organizations around the world including the UNESCO International Music Prize in 1994, and the Theodor Heuss Taten der Versöhnung (Deeds of Reconciliation)the prestigious Herbert von Karajan Music prize in Baden-Baden and this year, he received the Großes Verdienstkreuz mit Stern (Great Service Cross (with star)) the highest civilian honor awarded in the Federal Republic of Germany, while his recordings have received every honor and recognition the industry can bestow including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Grammy.
