Happy Birthday, Julie! I realize that today is your 54th Birthday. I remember the evening of 54 years ago today when Ma and I were driven by taxie from Iwanuma to Miyagino Hospital in Sendai. Since Ma’s labor pain was getting more and more intense, the driver, Tako-chan, tried very hard to drive fast. At that time, there was no express-way that we have today in the area. On the way, he even stopped the taxie at a store and made a phone call for us to the hospital so that they would be ready to receive Ma immediately. When we arrived at the hospital, they were waiting for us at the entrance. Ma was taken to a room where you were born right away even before the doctor came in. One of the experienced nurses took excellent care of Ma for the delivery, but soon after that the doctor showed up to say only that everything looked all right. So, you were born like that. You looked cute and healthy, and I felt so relieved. I remember that Tako-chan, the driver, remembered the evening for a long time, and asked me about you several times whenever I happened to ride his cab in Iwanuma later, but I understand that he passed away about 20 years ago. So, you are now 54 years old with quite a bit of responsibility. I am also very happy that you have a wonderful family of your own. I only hope that you will take very good care of yourself to keep healthy for a long time to come.
